CHARLES CONDOMINE (Male, 30s to early 50s)

A successful, charming, and somewhat self-absorbed novelist. Charles is intelligent, witty, and skeptical of the supernatural – until he finds himself caught between two wives… and two realms.

Needs strong comedic timing and ability to balance exasperation with dry humor. The role requires excessive physical comedy choreography and some coordinated intimacy with female co-stars.

RUTH CONDOMINE (Female, 30s to early 50s)

Charles’s second wife. Elegant, practical, and very grounded. Ruth is sharp, pragmatic and finds herself fighting to exorcize Elvira’s ghost and maintain her marriage. Her growing frustration with the ghostly intrusion drives much of the comedy.

The role requires excessive physical comedy choreography, some coordinated intimacy with male co-star, and strong dry comedy skills.

ELVIRA (Female, late 20s to 40s)

Charles’s first wife, now a glamorous and ethereal ghost. Elvira is flirtatious, mischievous, and carefree. She is thrilled to be back among the living and has no concern for the difficulties she may bring to the Condomine household.

The role requires excessive physical comedy choreography, some coordinated intimacy with male co-star, and some serious eccentric humour comedy chops.

MADAME ARCATI (Female, 40s to mid 60s)

The eccentric spiritualist who unwittingly causes chaos by unleashing Elvira into the Condomine household. Madame Arcati is delightfully odd, strangely energetic, and completely confident in her powers.

The role requires broad physicality, bold choices, and excessive physical comedy choreography. The character must be able to lift up to 25lbs and get up and down off the floor without difficulty.

DR. GEORGE BRADMAN (Male, 30s–60s)

A sensible, down-to-earth family doctor. He’s skeptical of the séance but humors the idea.

Supportive role, requiring good comic instincts. The role requires some physical comedy choreography and minor coordinated intimacy with a female co-star.

MRS. VIOLET BRADMAN (Female, 30s–60s)

Dr. Bradman’s excitable wife. Enthusiastic and naive. She’s thrilled by the idea of the séance and easily swept up in the drama.

Supportive role, requiring good comic instincts. The role requires some physical comedy choreography and minor coordinated intimacy with male co-star.

EDITH (Female, 20s–40s)

New to her job as a maid, Edith is nervous and comically eager. Her ineptitude adds color to the house. She unwittingly becomes central to the plot and understanding why Elvira’s ghost has arrived – and has difficulty leaving.

The role requires some physical comedy choreography. This is the only role that requires a less refined British accent, so please prepare a “below stairs” accent for your audition.
