Poet, novelist and adventurer Miguel de Cervantes is arrested with his servant and thrown into prison awaiting trial by the Spanish Inquisition. To protect his manuscript of Don Quixote from his fellow prisoners, Cervantes involves them all in acting out the story of the deluded knight who tilts at windmills, his squire Sancho Panza, and Aldonza, the bitter, broken woman whom Don Quixote sees as Dulcinea, the woman of his dreams. Fiction and reality intertwine as the story unfolds, with the addition of a magnificent musical score, and the prisoners passionately debate the merits of pursuing “The Impossible Dream.”
