ACTORS’ NET SUMMER STARS
NOW ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS
The Actors’ NET of Bucks County is now accepting registrations for students in their popular Summer Stars theatrical training course. Space is limited!!! And there are no hidden costs!!!!!
Monday through Friday, July 7 to August 3, 2008, Actors' NET Summer Stars will receive professional instruction in acting, singing and dance. Children age 7–12 attend morning sessions, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Teens 13–17 attend afternoon classes, 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. Both classes perform the weekend of Aug. 3rd in separate full-length musical comedies custom-written for the students by Actors’ NET Co-founder and Managing Director Joe Doyle. (At this writing, there is the possibility the students may perform one performance of each of their shows outdoors in Williamson Park.)
“Summer Stars is not your conventional theatre program for kids,” Doyle explained. “It isn’t day care! Scripts are written with the kids who are enrolled in mind. Nobody has an insignificant part. All get to shine!
“Our age 7–12 students this year will perform Zoo Story — continuing the Merlin the Magician/Morgan Le Fey battle raging since starting the program ten years ago,” Doyle noted. “This year, the Professor (who’s really Merlin) turns creatures from the Philadelphia Zoo into human children for company. Sorceress Morgan casts a spell to make the Professor’s new friends rebel and refuse to go back to the zoo. The debate rages, with singing and dancing. This year, leads are again shared by a boy and girl, with plenty of featured comic roles. Naturally show tunes and dance routines complement the action.”
“Teens 13–17,” Doyle continued, “perform Beach Party Slasher II -- a musical comedy spoof of both the ‘60s Beach Party films and today’s popular slasher flicks. It’s all strictly done for laughs. Simple formula: “Teens on a beach. A killer’s on the loose! Who lives? Who dies? Who gets to sing next?” As always, the teen show features a healthy dose of good old-fashioned rock ‘n roll –- music that will have their parents and grandparents rocking in their seats.”
Doyle, a veteran of three national musical stage tours and author of more than a dozen plays and two musicals – will supervise the training. Scheduled to return as instructors are Matt South (acting), Danielle Tucci-Juraga (dance) and this year both Pat Masterson AND Emily Van Praag (singing). Past Summer Star graduates Tess Ammerman and Sarah Webster will also intern for Summer Stars, ensuring each student gets individual attention.
“Cost of the 2008 Summer Stars program is now only $425 for the entire four-weeks with a $25 early bird discount for those registering by April 30,” Doyle said. “Final registration deadline is May 31. This allows me to write the shows in time for the start of classes in July. While we expect students may miss some class days if their families have other plans, all must commit to definitely be on hand during the fourth week –- production week. All must commit to appearing in their two performances. The kids perform Friday night Aug. 3 and Saturday afternoon Aug. 4, while the teens rock Saturday night Aug. 4 and Sunday afternoon Aug. 5.”
To register, send fifty percent of the program cost as deposit. Balance is due by Sunday July 6, during a special orientation meeting on 1 p.m. at the Heritage Center in Morrisville. All classes are held at the Heritage Center, where Actors’ NET serves as the resident theatre company. The theatre address is 635 N. Delmorr Avenue, Morrisville, PA 19067.
